Align your body and free your breath with Sara and Guy at Atmajyoti Yoga in Stockholm
This is the time to learn more about the depths of yoga as a spiritual practice. The two extended classes will focus on alignment, both physical and internal, highlighting the importance of quality of mind and approach to practice. Discussions about what yoga actually is and it’s possibilities for energetic transformation will be a natural part of the workshop.
Schedule Sep 21-22:
1. Saturday, 12.00-16.00 – STABILISE YOUR CALM
The first afternoon focuses on getting in touch with the breath and the pelvic floor/bandhas. By therapeutically developing our relationship with these key components of yoga, we will discover how yoga postures/asana can support your breathing patterns, building a strong and intelligent sense of the physical body. Once the container, our body, is stabilised the aim will be to free our optimum natural breath and let go of negative breathing patterns. Chanting and contemplation are also used to deepen the connection with our spiritual selves.
2. Sunday, 9.00-13.00 – RIDE ON THE BREATH
The second class develops the understanding of asana/postures from the day before. The breath work will move into more traditional pranayama, paying attention to the details of the preparatory exercises and having time for students to experience a deep pranayama session. Pulse reading can be done for those wishing to start a personal prescription or wanting one reviewed.
Both classes will go into the following methods for practice:
Breath work – (Pranayama) The true juice in yoga where transformation really happens! The speciality of this workshop.
Yoga postures – (Asana) Done in a careful and mindful manner, where breath leads the way and the details that make a big difference are highlighted.
Chanting – The soothing nature of mantra is a powerful way to help the mind to settle, channelising our energy.
Contemplation – Practicing positive mental qualities causes them to arise more easily through the rest of our day bringing physical and psychological benefits.
1 OR 2 OR BOTH
Students will get most out of the workshop by attending both classes, however it is also possible to join just one. All levels are welcome.
Sara and Guy are two of the most experienced and skilled pranayama teachers in Europe. They have both studied extensively with classical pranayama master Sri O.P Tiwari and have been authorized by him to teach.
Sara was a senior teacher at Samahita Retreat under Paul Dallaghan, growing and learning from him. Today she writes and runs teacher training courses in Sweden with the help of her husband Guy. Guy started his relationship to yoga in an academic setting with a university degree in Indian religions and Buddhism.
They both started their practice within the method of Ashtanga Vinyasa and have since then broadened their understanding of physical yoga by studying with teachers like Richard Freeman, Chuch Miller and Dona Holleman. Through their influence, Sara and Guy’s approach is moving beyond physical practice and refining the relationship between body, breath and mind. Increasingly they are spending time in Buddhist meditation and mindfulness retreats, bringing the wisdom gained from this back into their yoga teaching.
