Hatha Yoga Teacher Intensive with Noah Maze at Atmajyoti Yoga in Stockholm
This workshop is held at Sigtunagatan 8 Monday and Tuesday March 16 & 17 and then on Norrtullsgatan 20 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday March 18, 19 & 20.
Are you interested in learning more about your body and its capacity to move? Are you looking to empower yourself with the skills to evolve your practice or teaching to maximize the human body’s diverse and intelligent strength? Are you ready to tap your own creative pathways into increased mobility and movement? When you turn all the lights on; how awake, how alive, how aware can you be?
This intensive is designed for yoga teachers and committed yoga students who wish to learn more about their bodies and experience greater skill and alignment in yoga poses. These anatomical-based sessions and workshops take you on an educational and experiential journey of body-mind-heart and will teach you anatomy and physiology and how to use your newly acquired knowledge to optimize your yoga practice and better leverage yoga poses. Students who participate in the “teacher sessions” will gain new skills to effectively sequence and teach anatomically based yoga classes.
We will detail and study a specific body region on each of the 5 days, and explore that region via lecture, experiential learning, and asana workshops. You will learn more than you knew was possible, as you awaken your body, activate actions and muscle groups via progressive and creative sequencing.
Each day is comprised of three parts: (1) a 90-minute anatomy and kinesiology of a body region experiential lecture (2) a 2.5-hour asana & movement workshop to apply and embody the anatomy and kinesiology focus in yoga poses (3) and a 90-minute teachers workshop to integrate anatomical knowledge into sequencing and teaching pedagogy. Hours can be applied to continuing education credit with Yoga Alliance. Come ready to wake up your whole being! Expect clear and detailed instruction, anatomical specificity, progressive sequencing, and the specific use of use of props and prop drills.

DAY 1: HEALTHY SPINE
The Wonder of Your Body—Your Spine—In this full spectrum practice, you will learn about the anatomy and kinesiology of your spine and how to create optimal stability in asanas that include neutral spine, flexion, extension, laterally flexion and rotation of your spine. In particular we will focus on how to safely and effectively open the spine for back bending postures.
Asana Class: Fortify Your Heart or Bend Don’t Break – Do you desire a more confident, stable and liberated experience in your body while bending backward? It may not be facilitated in the way you expect. Set your dial to awareness and enliven the levers and pulleys that lengthen and extend your spine. In this session, we will explore innovative drills to mobilize and activate your shoulder girdle, neck and spine. Learn to bend with appropriate tensile strength and balance stability and mobility. Bringing your spine body fully online will enable your whole self with the healthy and powerful qualities these postures enable. Variations of all postures will be available. This workshop will feature step-by-step sequencing, applied anatomy, clear instructions, creative prop work, attention to alignment and stages appropriate for all yogis of all levels.
Day 2: STABLE PELVIS
The Wonder of Your Body—Your Pelvis—Learn how to align and stabilize your pelvis, with particular attention to the sacro-iliac joint and pubic symphysis (as well as lumbar spine & hip). Through movement and poses you will stabilize and strengthen these structures progressively from more simple and symmetrical poses, to increasingly complex and asymmetrical standing and seated poses.
Asana Class: Strong to the Core—This slow_and_steady workshop will first activate and strengthen the deep stabilizing muscles of your pelvis and spine. With mula-bandha and uddiyana-bhanda in place, we circumnavigate 360 degrees around your torso and pelvis to systematically strengthen every side. Expect plenty of pelvic floor and transverse abdominus activation cues, supine and seated abdominal strengtheners, strengthening drills for your inner thighs (hip adductors) and outer hip muscles (hip abductors), as well as hamstring and back strengthening. Expect specific anatomical cueing and explanation, activation skills and drills, plenty of yoga pose applications, and fun and challenging arm balance culminations. This session is for all levels of yogis who are ready to work hard, learn and have fun. Your core will be fortified, your hips, pelvis and back will be grateful!
DAY 3: HAPPY HIPS AND KNEES
The Wonder of Your Body—Your Pelvis & Hips—Got hip openers? Learn how to stabilize and appropriately mobilize your hips and knees as we progress from more basic poses into asymmetrical peak poses of great flexibility such as Hanumanasana (Front Splits) and externally rotated poses like Padmasana (Lotus Pose).
Asana Class: Hippy Harmony: To facilitate greater harmony in life and in movement, we investigate mobility strategies in our spine, pelvis, and hips. Understanding the dynamic possibilities of these regions of your body will unlock greater freedom in a wide range of standing, and seated postures, as well as your capacity to transition creatively through these asanas with ease and stability. In this deep exploration of hip openers and lower body alignment, we will seek to cultivate a blissful place of love and inner sweetness. Awaken the circuitry and intelligence of your lower limbs and accomplish greater freedom in your functional ranges of motion, while you dive into your depths and saturate the richness of these deeply calming and intoxicating poses. This workshop will feature step-by-step sequencing, applied anatomy, clear instructions, creative prop work, attention to alignment and stages appropriate for all yogis of all levels.
DAY 4: ANKLE AND FOOT
The Wonder of Your Body—Your Ankles, Feet & Toes—This foot and lower leg focused class will awaken your lower extremities and shine the light of awareness into muscles and movements of your ankles, feet and toes. We too often take our feet for granted, but after this class you will experience a newfound appreciation for these amazing structures; expect plenty of standing poses and fun foot drills.
Asana Class: Warrior Feet: This class focuses on specific movements and actions of the toes, feet, and ankles in warrior poses (virabhadrasana I, II, III) and on stabilizing and aligning the feet knees and hips. Be prepared to occupy your legs and experience your feet as you never have before. Joyful groaning optional! This workshop will feature step-by-step sequencing, applied anatomy, clear instructions, creative prop work, attention to alignment and stages appropriate for all yogis of all levels.
DAY 5: SHOULDER, ELBOW, WRIST AND HAND
The Wonder of Your Body—Your Shoulders, Elbows, Wrists & Hands—Spread your wings as you learn about the structures that comprise your upper extremity. Strengthen your shoulder stabilizing muscles (rotator cuff, scapula stabilizers), arms and hands as you explore and expand your range of motion in a full spectrum asana practice including Chaturanga Dandasana (Four Limb Staff Pose), Adho Mukha Vrkshasana (Handstand Pose) and Vashistasana (Side Plank Pose).
Asana Class: Wings of Grace: Explore, strengthen, open and leverage your shoulder girdle and upper extremities (the upper arms, elbows, forearms, wrists, and hands). Learn healthy ways to mobilize as well as increase your strength and stability in the upper body in common poses and take what you discover into your practice. Strengthen and improve your down dog, and plank poses, and push into inversions like handstand. Prepare and break through to LIFT OFF to new heights and embody your greatest possibilities. This workshop will feature step-by-step sequencing, applied anatomy, clear instructions, creative prop work, attention to alignment and stages appropriate for all yogis of all levels.
