An invitation to Yoga Nidra
Nidra is the sanskrit word for sleep. Yoga Nidra is a deep state of relaxation, but instead of loosing unconscious as we do in normal sleep; we remain completely conscious and aware.
Normally all of our attention and sensory perceptions are focused on what’s happening in the outside world. In Yoga Nidra, through the practice of internalizing our senses, Pratyhara, we become increasingly aware of the subtle, internal world of sensations in the body. Our brain waves slow down to the alpha state, which allows the parasympathetic nervous system to dominate. It is in this state that the body rejuvenates and revitalizes, and we experience a profound, deep, inner calm.
Yoga Nidra has been practiced by yogis for thousands of years. It is a powerful method to reduce stress and anxiety that so many of us experience in our modern world. It is a scientific method that follows a very specific path, leading the practioner systematically through the body, using verbal ques and imagery.
